Average rate on 30-year loan eases to 4.42%

Wednesday, December 18th, 2013

Associated Press

WASHINGTON – Dec. 13, 2013 – Average U.S. rates for fixed mortgages eased slightly this week, remaining near historically low levels.

Mortgage buyer Freddie Mac said Thursday that the rate on the 30-year loan declined to 4.42 percent from 4.46 percent last week. The average on the 15-year fixed loan dipped to 3.43 percent from 3.47 percent.

Mortgage rates peaked at 4.6 percent in August and have stabilized since September, when the Federal Reserve surprised markets by taking no action on starting to reduce its bond purchases. The Fed meets next week and could slow the bond purchases if the economy shows further improvement.

The bond purchases are designed to keep long-term rates such as mortgage rates low.

A Commerce Department report issued Thursday signaled growing consumer confidence in the economy at the start of the holiday shopping season, as November retail sales rose at the fastest pace in five months.

Average rate on 30-year mortgage at 4.13%

Associated Press

WASHINGTON – Oct. 25, 2013 – Average U.S. rates on fixed mortgages dropped this week to their lowest levels in four months, a positive sign for the housing recovery.

Mortgage buyer Freddie Mac says the average rate on the 30-year loan fell to 4.13 percent. That’s down from 4.28 percent. The average on the 15-year fixed loan declined to 3.24 percent from 3.33 percent.

Both averages are the lowest since June 20.

Mortgage rates have been falling since September, when the Federal Reserve held off slowing its $85-billion-a-month in bond purchases. The bond buys are intended to keep longer-term interest rates low, including mortgage rates.

And a slowdown in hiring in September makes it more likely that the Fed will continue its stimulus into next year.

Mortgage rates tend to follow the yield on the 10-year Treasury note. The 10-year note traded at 2.50 percent Wednesday, down sharply from 2.61 percent last Thursday.

Dreambuilder Custom Homes announces Dreambuilder 23: a kitchen remodel

Work is already underway at Dreambuilder’s newest remodeling project, Dreambuilder 23.  We’re helping owners Steve and Kara Golgulski transform this 1980s kitchen into a 21st century showplace!

The original kitchen and was in great condition but showing its aged styling with oak cabinets, blue Corian countertops, white appliances and vinyl floors.  Most importantly, however, the kitchen was cut off from the great room by a wall.

Our plan is to open up that wall to create a more open space between the two rooms, along with a new eating peninsula.  We’ll be installing new, all wood shaker-style cabinets along with granite countertops and tile flooring.  New Whirlpool stainless steel appliances, including a new double oven and separate cooktop, are arriving soon.  New lighting, a new breakfast area and a new powder room are all on their way.  The centerpiece of the kitchen will be a fantastic free-standing island the owner already has.

We’ve got some surprises in store with the finishing touches, so be sure and keep track of our progress on our Facebook page where we’ve already posted before pictures, demolition and reconfiguration.
