Starr Custom Homes recently completed two remodeling projects resulting in two happy clients.

The first project, pictured above, was a kitchen and bath remodel for Mark and Walda Starkey.  We took a 20+ year old kitchen and turned it into a 21st century showplace. Dingy, peeling Thermofoil cabinets and aging appliances were replaced with painted and glazed wood cabinets, a custom California island and built-in Thermador appliances, quartz countertops, cross-cut travertine flooring, a marble subway tile backsplash and more.   The bathroom was also completely updated with custom tiles, a large walk in shower, and a rustic furniture style vanity with soapstone countertop.  We’d like to thank our interior designer, Josie Myers, for collaborating on this project.

The second project was for a repeat client, Brian McElyea.  We took an open, upstairs loft and enclosed it for use as a home office.  New paint, flooring and crown moulding finished off the new space.  Plus, we installed a great built-in desk with shelving and plenty of storage from California Closets.  Now, Brian can work from home with quiet, privacy and functionality.

You can read testimonials from both of these satisfied clients here, and check out the DreamDesign 32 album on our Facebook page for before and after pictures of that project.

Dreambuilder 23, a 1980s kitchen renovation, is complete!

Saturday, February 22nd, 2014

Kara Anderson loved her home — but hated her kitchen!

Built in the 1980s, the kitchen was large and in good condition — but was closed off from the rest of house and showing its age stylistically.  Kara called Dreambuilder in to help her transform her outdated kitchen into a contemporary showplace — and Dreambuilder 23 was born.

“The transformation of our outdated 80′s kitchen to an amazing center piece to our home is amazing,” said Kara after working with Shawn Starr, Dreambuilder’s president.  “His vision and ideas along with our own created the diner feel while keeping us on budget.”

The primary requirement for the project was the removal of the wall between the kitchen and great room, opening up the space.  A new counter-height bar was added for additional seating.  And now, with wide-open views between rooms, cooking and entertaining can easily take place. (more…)

Work is already underway at Dreambuilder’s newest remodeling project, Dreambuilder 23.  We’re helping owners Steve and Kara Golgulski transform this 1980s kitchen into a 21st century showplace!

The original kitchen and was in great condition but showing its aged styling with oak cabinets, blue Corian countertops, white appliances and vinyl floors.  Most importantly, however, the kitchen was cut off from the great room by a wall.

Our plan is to open up that wall to create a more open space between the two rooms, along with a new eating peninsula.  We’ll be installing new, all wood shaker-style cabinets along with granite countertops and tile flooring.  New Whirlpool stainless steel appliances, including a new double oven and separate cooktop, are arriving soon.  New lighting, a new breakfast area and a new powder room are all on their way.  The centerpiece of the kitchen will be a fantastic free-standing island the owner already has.

We’ve got some surprises in store with the finishing touches, so be sure and keep track of our progress on our Facebook page where we’ve already posted before pictures, demolition and reconfiguration.

Dreambuilder Nine, a master bath remodel we did last year for the Hughes family, was featured in this month’s issue of Florida Homebuyer / Remodel Jacksonville.  The magazine featured an article on remodeling projects that cost under $15,000.

Dreambuilder Nine took a drab, low-grade bathroom and transformed it into a contemporary spa retreat.  It was recognized with a First Coast Remodeler’s Award last year.
