Dreambuilder Custom Homes is proud to announce the completion of Dreambuilder 17, our oceanfront home in Jacksonville Beach built for the Kane family.
Matt and Alexis Kane first met with Dreambuilder regarding building in the Avondale area of Jacksonville, but due to its proximity to their workplaces the lot search turned to the beach. Dreambuilder brought in Realtor Sherri Beno to assist with the search, and soon enough the lot at 2701 Ocean Drive was under contact.
Dreambuilder worked with the Kanes on some conceptual designs and then brought in the architects at Wakefield Beasley and Associates and the structural engineers at Lou Pontigo and Associates to assist with the design. “Building on the ocean requires a concrete pile foundation, superior windstorm strength and a more strict building code,” explained Dreambuider President Shawn Starr. “We wanted to assemble a knowledgeable team to work with us on this complex project to create the best outcome for the Kanes.”
Additionally, Dreambuilder brought in interior designer Carrie Kraus to work with the Kanes on their interior selections. “At Dreambuilder we want to provide a full-service experience,” said Starr. “Our clients count on us to bring in the right professionals so that they don’t have to worry about it.” Matt Kane said “Dreambuilder did a wonderful job with our oceanfront home. We started with a blank canvas and they helped us sketch, design, and build our forever home.”
Over the next 18 months the 3,500 SF, three-story home was designed, engineering and built just in time for the 2013 holidays. After taking some time to furnish their new home, the Kanes invited Dreambuilder back in to take pictures of the home.
The Kanes’ design style was contemporary beach cottage. On the exterior, cottage elements such as shake and board & batten siding were combined with a dark, monochromatic color pallet unlike anything at the beach today. On the interior, rustic design combined with sleek, minimalist trim and finishes create the cohesive look.
And best of all, virtually every room has direct views of the beautiful Atlantic Ocean!
The first floor contains the great room, kitchen and dining room in an open concept plan, providing a great place for the Kanes’ growing family to gather. A guest suite provides a private refuge for guests. The second floor contains two more bedrooms sharing a Jack & Jill bath along with a game room and a study. The entire third floor is dedicated to the master suite – and all three floors enjoy oceanfront balconies with 180 degree views of the ocean.
Matt Kane added “Thanks to their expertise and process Dreambuilder follows, they made it as easy as possible for us to put all of the love and care we wanted into the final product. The team that Shawn put together was excellent and every phase from design, to permitting, to construction, and finally finish was wonderful.”
