Starr® Custom Homes is pleased to announce the completion of a unique project, a wood-working workshop in Queens Harbour Yacht & Country Club.

DreamDesign® 42, built for client Dr. Paul Schloth, is an oversized, 383 SF single car garage dedicated to the client’s hobby of wood-working.  “Whether building a new home or a project like this, we enjoy engaging the client to find out how we can design and build something that best meets their specific needs,” said SCH president Shawn Starr. “For Dr. Schloth, we didn’t simply build an extra garage.  We worked with him to understand what equipment he uses, where he plans to place which tools in the space, what specific electrical requirements he had, and many other factors to build a space that helps him with his work flow, keeps things organized and provides him with an environment to enhance his creativity.”

A “mini-split” system was installed for air conditioning and heating.  The well-lit space includes outlets every three to four feet at 48” above the floor, so there’s always an easily accessible outlet nearby for equipment.  Additionally, floor plugs and ceiling outlets were installed for equipment in the middle of the room.  Storage racks, a utility sink and a built-in vacuum system for sawdust were installed.  And underneath it all, an easy-to-clean epoxy floor.

The garage is attached to the house via a breezeway to the existing garage service door, and the new structure was designed in the Colonial style to match the existing home.  The curb appeal of the entire home was refreshed with new paint, additional landscaping and a new paver driveway.

The project earned high marks with Dr. Schloth, who immediately began using his new space.  Since the existing garage was now empty of equipment, the Schloths were able to begin parking their cars in the garage for the first time in years.  You can see pictures and additional details in our gallery.
