Starr® Custom Homes (SCH) is pleased to announce the completion of DreamDesign®50. This renovation for a repeat client took an unused lanai and transformed it into a beautiful art studio.
We completed DreamDesign®29 almost three years ago for Chris and Alison Sieburg, an award-winning riverfront farmhouse south of Green Cove Springs. Since they moved in, Alison has spent more and more time on her painting, sharing the study with Chris. With so many art supplies taking up space, and realizing they didn’t use their riverfront lanai as much as they thought they would, Chris and Alison contacted us to convert the lanai into a dedicated art studio. “Recently we decided that we needed to create an art studio in our house which was originally built by Starr Custom Homes,” said Alison. “From the onset we believed that Starr Custom Homes would be our preferable solution given their attention to detail, sense of design, and project management skills.”
Since the lanai was already walled on three sides and roofed, enclosing it was relatively easy by adding the fourth wall. We stripped all of the exterior siding away and removed the windows and doors separating the existing home from the lanai. Our talented trim carpenters re-cased all of the open window and door openings and added shiplap details to the new space, repeating a theme found elsewhere in the home. We also brought in a mini-split HVAC system to heat and cool the space. Best of all, the wall of windows retains the gorgeous river views from the studio and great room.
The result is a beautiful and functional space where Alison can spend time working on her paintings, allowing Chris to use the study to its fullest for his work. “Shawn and Josie nailed it again,” said Alison. “It was a worry free remodel and we absolutely love what they did. We often hear nightmare stories about home building and remodels….we feel truly blessed to have found Starr Custom Homes!”
