It’s been nearly a year since we completed Dreambuilder 15, our authentic Shingle-style home located in Avalon in south Jacksonville Beach. Located just two blocks from the Atlantic Ocean, this four-bedroom, three and a half bath home is nearly 3,100 SF on two levels.
At Dreambuilder Custom Homes we try to bring architectural authenticity to our homes using true residential architectural styles. We selected the Shingle-style for this home as it is a coastal style found in the homes of Cape Cod. Elements of the shingle style include: obviously, shingle or shake siding; stone accents; towers with subdued roof structures (not high and pointed like the Queen Anne style); and prominent gables. Windows play an important role as well: windows in sets of three; transoms; and the use of half-round windows are all elements of the Shingle-style home. You can see all of these features in Dreambuilder 15.Read more
Kara Anderson loved her home — but hated her kitchen!
Built in the 1980s, the kitchen was large and in good condition — but was closed off from the rest of house and showing its age stylistically. Kara called Dreambuilder in to help her transform her outdated kitchen into a contemporary showplace — and Dreambuilder 23 was born.
“The transformation of our outdated 80′s kitchen to an amazing center piece to our home is amazing,” said Kara after working with Shawn Starr, Dreambuilder’s president. “His vision and ideas along with our own created the diner feel while keeping us on budget.”
The primary requirement for the project was the removal of the wall between the kitchen and great room, opening up the space. A new counter-height bar was added for additional seating. And now, with wide-open views between rooms, cooking and entertaining can easily take place.Read more
SAN JOSE, Calif. – Feb. 11, 2014 – Realtor.com® released the results of its Home Crush Survey, which studied the way men and women react to homes on the market.
Realtor.com defined a “home crush” as a listing that a consumer likes and looks at more than once online or in person. The survey ran on realtor.com from Jan. 9-20 and found that more than 1,000 respondents reported having a home crush.
“We conducted the survey to see how searching for ‘the one’ in real estate correlates to searching for ‘the one’ in love, and we found that they’re very similar,” says Barbara O’Connor, chief marketing officer at realtor.com. “Buyers have to evaluate crushes based on turn-ons and -offs, and whether the home is in their league, so they often find themselves spending a good amount of time checking out their crush online.”
Overall, 69 percent of those surveyed said that they developed a house crush, and 31 percent did not.Read more
